Abstract

To the Editor: The editorial by Drs. Click and Thomson (NEJM, 282:977, 1970) entitled “Patient Care in Municipal Hospitals” is very timely with respect to what is happening in the New York City Hospital System. As July draws near, the Department of Hospitals will again notify each of the municipal hospitals of budget cuts for the coming year. This should bring about a confrontation, as occurred last June, between the City and various hospitals and physician groups who can no longer tolerate further degradation of medical care in this City.
