Abstract
To the Editor: Garg et al. begin their article (Sept. 29 issue)1 with the tenet, “Diet is a cornerstone of therapy for patients with non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM)” and repeat, in the second sentence of the Discussion, that “diet remains the cornerstone of therapy for NIDDM.” It is therefore disappointing that they do not mention the foods that provided 60 percent of the energy as carbohydrate in the high-carbohydrate diet and 35 percent of the energy as carbohydrate in the high-monounsaturated-fat diet. We believe that, just as the sources of chemicals used in biochemical testing are required to be given.
