Abstract
Rapid advances in technology are influencing our reasoning and decision making. Advances in the availability of information are due to computing devices that are both portable and powerful. The advances in software have enabled accurate information to be delivered quickly. We have seen unprecedented levels of automation in society and the widespread use of computers in our lives. Artificial intelligence (AI) can ultimately help us in our reasoning processes by providing the correct information when we most need it. High profile contests have taken place over the past 30years in which computer programs have defeated top humans. Virtual reality (VR) technology may lead to more immersive and realistic computerized reasoning tasks as we move into the future. VR may also emulate daily life conditions, which may help us to assess and deliver training methods for cognitive skills.
