Abstract

Funding is an important factor you must consider. This chapter highlights an approach to take as you tackle this subject and explore different models. The approach begins by defining the importance of securing buy-in from stakeholders and knowing thyself. We will also review methods to foster organizational ownership and buy-in, in order to help sustain funding. The next step includes defining how much funding your center needs by knowing your expenses, internal funding, and future projections. This will be accomplished by examining expense capturing. The chapter will then move to a review of different funding models, with the aim of helping you gain perspective on what type or types of funding would be best fit for your program. Finally, the chapter will close with a look into the future and a call to action to move society beyond the current state of funding.
