Abstract
Fractures of the pelvis and acetabulum are among the most challenging injuries to treat in orthopaedic surgery. A thorough understanding of the surgical treatment of pelvic and acetabular fractures has evolved only recently from its inception four decades ago. As a result, the opinions expressed by those who have made pelvic and acetabular surgery a major part of their career often differ, have little scientific basis, and continue to evolve rapidly. It is important to be aware of more recent advances and opinions regarding the management of these complex injuries.
