Abstract
The EMS physician needs a foundational understanding of the role of the physician in both initial and continuing EMS education. This includes theories of adult learning, the language of learning, and the evolution of EMS curricula and accreditation standards for EMS providers. Initial education has changed significantly in format and content over the past 45 years. Released in 2000, the EMS Education Agenda created a system of education with an appropriate education development process. This has initiated significant initial provider education changes and is a key resource document as it relates to accreditation.
