Abstract

The authors have studied the distribution of the electrotonic membrane potential in flat anisotropic syncytia. They analyse the general case in which both the intra- and extracellular media are characterized by finite anisotropic conductivities. They calculate the length constant l of an anisotropic "oblique-symmetrical" syncytium for which l has a minimum value along the coordinate axes and the maximum along the straight lines y = ± x.
