Abstract

Squamous endothelial Balb/3T3 murine cells were selected for observing the effects of cytochalasin B on cell morphology, by SEM and high voltage electron microscope. For these observations, whole cell mounts were prepared by growing cells on gold grids coated with a Formvar film (0. 7%) and evaporated carbon. After 48 hours of incubation, the cells were exposed to cytochalasin B for varying intervals, then fixed, dehydrated, and dried by the critical point method. The study is an attempt to provide an overall image of the cell response in terms of both topography and associated intracellular fine structure by comparing the images obtained by SEM with those of the same or similar whole cells viewed by TEM.
