Abstract

Blood clots were prepared on plastic substrata and analyzed for fibronectin distribution using indirect immunofluorescence. Platelets generally were observed at focal points where numerous fibrin strands came together and the entire platelet-fibrin meshwork was covered with a uniform coating of fibronectin. In contrast to platelets, other peripheral blood cells observed had no fibronectin on their surfaces, including neutrophils, monocytes, eosinophils, lymphocytes, and red blood cells.
