Abstract

While the advent of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) has led to a fall in the incidence of deep fungal infection in HIV patients in the US and Europe, no such decline has been witnessed in countries with limited funds and access to such therapy. In the HIV-infected population, the occurrence of fungal infections is largely dependent upon the degree of CD4+ T-lymphocyte depletion as well as exposure to endemic dimorphic fungi.1.
