Abstract
The high prevalence of nephrolithiasis significantly impacts the economics of healthcare. Cost analysis research can help delineate the sources of healthcare expenditure so as to guide physicians in the provision of cost-conscious care. In stone management, a number of studies have been performed comparing the cost of treatment approaches, both surgical and medical. This chapter will examine the science of cost analysis in medicine and review the available literature pertaining to the cost of treating renal and ureteral calculi.
