Abstract
The sodium and potassium currents across the excitable membrane have been calculated on clamping of the membrane potential. It is shown that the steady potassium current may have in the region of hyperpolarization a portion with negative resistance. Numerical methods have revealed the behaviour of the membrane potential and the fraction of conducting sodium and potassium channels during generation of the action potential. The effect of various parameters on the behaviour and form of the spike has been studied. It is shown that the membrane model considered enables one to describe many dynamic characteristics, in particular, the phenomenon of sharp depolarization.
