Abstract
Colpocleisis is an obliterative procedure for the correction of pelvic organ prolapse that is uniquely suited to elderly women and those with multiple medical comorbidities in need of an expeditious, durable prolapse repair. Important caveats are highlighted: (1) the patient should have no desire for future vaginal coital activity; (2) if the uterus is to be retained, a preoperative assessment of the endometrial cavity is prudent; and (3) a concomitant continence procedure is frequently needed, and, thus, one should assess for overt or occult stress leakage preoperatively.
