title = "A comprehensive survey of DNA-binding transcription factor gene expression in human fetal and adult organs",
abstract = "A global survey of RNA from 14 fetal and 12 adult human organs by RT-PCR determined the expression patterns of 790 genes encoding DNA-binding transcription factors. The data can be sorted to identify sets of transcription factors with expression relatively restricted to a given organ or to particular organ groups. These data are a resource to help define the spectrum of transcription factor control, contribute to the elucidation of transcription factor cascades responsible for the development and maintenance of each organ, and provide a baseline to study the effects of disease or developmental defects.",

note = "Funding Information: We thank Dr. Nancy Price for assistance in the initial stages of this project, Jia Liu, Jumin Xue, and Anson Tang for excellent technical support, and Dr. Jane Johnson for helpful discussions. We thank Ben Chu for his assistance in devising computer programs for data base searches and primer design and Dr. Brian Davis for helpful discussions and insights into database analysis. Human T-cell RNA was a gift from Dr. David Farrar and Nishant Sahni, and Dr. Andrew Zinn graciously provided human genomic DNA. Dr. Simon Tran provided helpful advice on submandibular gland histology. Adult submandibular gland biopsies were provided by the Cooperative Human Tissue Network, which is funded by the National Cancer Institute. Fetal organs were provided by the Laboratory of Developmental Biology, University of Washington, Seattle through funding from NIH Grant HD000836. RNA isolation from human tissue samples reported herein was exempted from review by the Institutional Review Board of the UT Southwestern Medical Center. This work was supported by Grants DE14226 and DK042502 from the National Institutes of Health. ",
