Abstract
Studies of the DNA binding transcription factors have provided major insights into mechanisms of lymphoid development. Now a new class of transcription factors has emerged that control RNA polymerase activity itself. Here Joan Conaway and her colleagues describe some of these factors and the roles they play in three human diseases.
