Transgenic Core

The mission of the core is to create and preserve lines of genetically engineered rodents. The core can generate conventional transgenic mice and rats and can create chimeric mice harboring select genetic mutations. The core performs gene targeting in mouse embryonic stem cells, expansions of in-house targeted ES cell clones and KOMP derived clones, and preparation of targeted ES cell clones for microinjection.

The core can rederive lines of mice from conventional housing to an SPF barrier status and can cryopreserve sperm, embryos, and ovaries from select mouse lines. Also, the core can reconstitute lines of mice from cryopreserved gametes by either simple embryo transfers or by performing in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer
